“Empathy is the power to imagine a world outside your own experience.”
The strength of the human spirit is staggering. As an artist my sympathies lie with people who struggle. Whether through good and bad, ugliness and cruelty, or unlucky and reckless, unexpected beauty always rises to the surface. In today’s world, this sentiment is harder and harder to sustain. I have seen my artwork shift from the horror of liars to my own Lakota history, to endangered species and how man is destroying the world we live in.
Although each of my work is different in their own right, together they carry the message of the outcomes and all are connected, whether through truth or treachery— all orchestrated by human hands. There is no difference between ignorance over our changing climate, the death of native species both animal and human, or the marginalization and fragmentation of societies through conflict and neglect. They are linked, either through greed or neglect. I am interested in making art that pictorially expresses a feeling, a sense of loss, a sense of injustice, or a glimpse of an outcome of what may come to pass, as we cannot live independently from our environment.
